O que é uma Dominatrix? | Ep. 8

Mistress, Domme, Goddess, Princess, Queen. What are these figures, where do they come from, and what does it mean, for Me, to use any of these titles? This episode is the most complete I have ever made about My own profession.

The origin of the word

The word "dominatrix", just like all its synonyms, comes from the Latin domina, which means "lady of the house", the feminine of dominus, "master of the house", used in Ancient Rome to designate high-ranking men, landowners, slave owners. It is from this place of ownership and authority that the term I use every day was born. In a fetish context, a domina is simply a woman who assumes the position of power and dominance within BDSM.

The priestesses of Inanna: the first dominatrices in history

Whenever someone asks Me who was the "first dominatrix in history", My answer is simple: ever since conscious sex has existed, there have been positions of power, someone more active, someone more passive, and everything that excites us around that dynamic. But if We want a concrete historical record, it exists: more than 5,000 years ago, in Mesopotamia, the priestesses of the goddess Inanna, goddess of love, fertility, sex, but also of justice and war, assumed positions of absolute power over their devotees in rituals involving physical and mental pain, humiliation, and an intense exchange of energy. Devotees were stripped, suffered, and "were reborn in ecstasy" through that surrender. I like to call them the first dominatrices in history because they are, in fact, the first accounts We have of something similar to what I and My colleagues do today.

Femdom: from the Victorian era to the present day

Centuries later, back in the Victorian era, there was a major rise in brothels and independent houses offering, sometimes exclusively, discipline and flagellation services. That is how the "flagellatrices" emerged: professionals responsible for dominating, using, and abusing (always with consent) the submissives and slaves who sought their services. It is from this point onward that the image closest to what We recognize today as a professional dominatrix begins to take shape.

Pro Dommes are sex workers or not?

There is a question I like to address with honesty because I see a lot of confusion around it: not all dominatrices view themselves as sex workers. I, personally, do, because, to Me, from the moment you are dealing with someone else's sexuality, earning money from it, and providing an experience that brings sexual satisfaction to someone, that is, by definition, sex work. But I completely understand why many of My colleagues disagree: it is very rare for any of us to sell direct sexual contact, and several view the profession as something closer to the therapeutic than the sexual. There is no right or wrong way to live this; it is an extremely subjective topic, with no governing body dictating universal rules, and each dominatrix ultimately builds her own meaning for the title she carries.

Respect as the foundation of BDSM

If there is something I consider absolutely non-negotiable in this profession, it is respect. It does not matter if it is a romantic relationship or a professional session; it does not matter if it is the lightest session or the heaviest in terms of degradation, respect is always present. It is respect that guarantees that, from the moment a submissive uses his safeword, I stop. It is also respect that sustains the aftercare at the end of each session, the conversation, often accompanied by a moment of meditation, where We exchange experiences and feedback. I have had so many submissives tell Me that the best part of the session, for them, was precisely that final moment, not the fetishes explored themselves.
